We were up to see Dave again yesterday, when we arrived there he was sitting outside in a wheelchair (not his own one as he keeps sliding down in it so he has had to revert to the hospitals chair).
Dave's own wheelchair needs a new type of cushion now and he will be getting one, this is to stop him from sliding down it. Dave was laughing and asking about how things went at the meeting in Perth this is where 7 committee members were there on fighting on behalf of our branch regarding changes being forced on us from Scotland MS.
Today Dave will be going to the Sauchieburn hotel for his lunch or tea? click here if you want to see this place. Dave has been looking forward to this outing.
I have just noticed a picture message on my phone sent to me from Irene yesterday the picture is below.

It has been almost a week now and I thought I have not updated anything so I decided that at the very least I better inform you how the Sauchieburn Hotel went. Dave had a great time he was really happy that he was out and about and everything went smooth on the day the taxi turned up early enough and the driver was very helpful so all in all everything went fine.
I am sorry that there is no more to report if anyone who visits would let me know how things are going then maybe I would have some more to report.
Ruby and I went to see Dave yesterday, he was looking good with a good sense of humour. I asked him a few questions and we both gave him some news about how the meeting went at Perth.
Dave is talking more fluently now and getting more and more interested in how things are developing at the branch. This to me is a good thing as it means he must be starting to feel a little bit better.
He had his electric wheelchair up at the hospital last week and had a few tests on it (his eyesight on the left is still a bit problematic) this is to see if he would be able to be left alone with it to help his mobility. but unfortunately he just does not have his navigation skills just quite right yet so with a little more practise he will get there.
The other patients were looking at his chair with envious eyes so it was locked away for safe keeping.
We spoke to Irene this morning on the phone, Dave is now allowed to use his electric wheelchair so is a lot happier and a little more independent with regards to being able to move around in it. He is also going to have a surprise for everyone at today's meeting at Edzell as he is going to appear there for a special treat this is going to have a double effect it will please Dave and everyone there. Click here to go to the Edzell event.
Yesterday on the 26th Ruby, Marilyn, Alec and I went to see Dave, he was in fine spirits and it was good to see Dave manoeuvring around so competently in his electric wheelchair he now has his own cushion as well on the chair which prevents him from sliding of his chair.
There are plans for him going home for a day with staff from the hospital to see about what is needed to be done at his home first so that everything should be in place (and hopefully he won't have to wait too long for whatever needs doing), so this has just got to be a step in the right direction.
Dave said he enjoyed his time at Edzell and hopes to come to our next outing at Letham as well. Dave and Irene are aware that they will have to get another car so Irene can manage Dave in and out of it. This is just one of many bridges that will have to be crossed so Dave will not end up totally housebound and maybe then still have some type of quality to life without mobility restrictions put on to them.
Today is the day that Dave will be going home for a trial to see what things Dave needs putting in place (so if you read this before thinking of giving Dave a visit today at the hospital then I advise you give it a miss as he won't be there, and please don't go to his house either as they won't have any time for social calls today either, as there will be too much time checking on what's needing to be done. Furthermore this is going to be a big step for Dave and Irene so they will need some time to adjust to it first.) I will update you with more news as soon as I possibly can.
Dave's home visit went well he enjoyed his time at home. On Monday the 1st this was the day when the (Occupational Therapist I think?) came back from holiday and she/he puts all of these plans into place for his move to go home so it is still early days as there is lots to be done. One good thing is at least things are now slowly starting to move in the right direction.
Ruby and I went to see Dave again today at his house as he got allowed out for another visit. It was good to see Dave and his family all enjoying themselves in his house. Dave was laughing and making the most of his visit home. This included him manoeuvring himself on his electric wheelchair over to his computer and then checking a lot of things on it. We hope that it won't be too long now before Dave gets home on a permanent basis.
Ruby spoke to Irene on the phone this morning to see how things are moving along with Dave. Irene said that all the things appear to be moving along nicely with stuff getting delivered at their house for Dave's needs.
Dave is also getting home again tomorrow for a day (Saturday so if you were going to visit I would cancel that) the only unfortunate thing about it is; Irene has to be at Stracathro for 7am to learn all about getting Dave up and washed and dressed so it will be an early start for her but she does not mind as they are normally both early risers and it has to be done as it is just another learning curve for the both of them.
They are making enquiries about a new car which would be suitable to get Dave about in without the need of taking him in and out of his chair. They have been lucky as their neighbour has just got a new car similar to their needs (which was adapted for moving people in their wheelchairs) and as their neighbours own their old car they have kindly allowed Irene the occasional use of it which also gives them some more practice on what needs doing.
Dave's eyesight is coming on even better now, there is just a little tiny bit that is still just not quite right, but Dave knows now to go back and scan to cope with it so we are very pleased with him.
More good news is he has been given a discharge date from the hospital, but don't get too excited by this as it is not the actual date he will be discharged on as it is only a date that is used to give the appropriate people set goals to in other words, it is for the council / O.T; to have things set in place for Dave's homecoming. They reckon it will possibly be 2 to 3 weeks time. This is another step closer to his homecoming. Yippee!
Saturday 20th September.
We spoke to Irene on the phone this morning, she told us things are getting delivered at their home for Dave so it should not be too long now before he gets home.
They are both going to be at our outing today in the Letham Hotel, so anyone who has not seen him yet now is your chance. The hospital are really pleased with Dave's progress and are saying he is needing home now so that is all good news.
Ok everyone here is the text sent from Irene to us tonight (Thursday) it reads Dave is coming home tomorrow for good. So after 108 days in hospital she will now have him back where he belongs.
Irene was telling us this morning (Thursday) that she still does not have the care package in place but she is not going to let Dave down as he is really needing to be home now.
Irene is getting Dave home tomorrow (Friday) around 2pm without the care package put in place but it is only temporary until Wednesday Morning then it should be put in place. Now hopefully that won't be too long so at long last things should be a lot better for the Fowler family and hear ends the progress reports.
