Here we are Christmas time again, we were last here for afternoon tea at the Park Hotel on Saturday 21st March 2008.
The Park is a nice disabled friendly hotel which is always warm and cosy, it also has friendly staff and the hotel is big enough to always handle all our guests comfortably with the added bonus of plenty room for parking.
The Christmas party was very busy as usual we had 11 tables and they all appeared to be full which held 10 places each giving us a rough total of about 110 members and guests being present.
The weather was perfect for the ducks with a lot of flooded land on the way up to Montrose.
The party went smoothly enough apart from not being able to hear the speaker properly (this can be a downside to big venues) so we tried to fix this by borrowing the hotels microphone which helped things a little.
We all had a glass of wine and a 3 course Christmas lunch finishing off with tea & biscuits.
There was 2 apologies for members not being able to come to the Christmas Lunch and they were from Sandy and Anne from Friockheim (seen in picture above the picture used is from a different venue) as Sandy has been very poorly of late and is hopefully making a good recovery and on the mend now it was a shame he was not well enough to make the Christmas lunch.
The other was from David Milne of Laurencekirk, his wife has MS but they were unable to come to the Christmas Lunch because his wife had an operation for a knee replacement and so they very kindly sent us a cheque for £20.00
The raffle was very successful and made a total of £406.60p so many thanks to all who donated the prizes for the raffle, furthermore to those who also contribute by buying raffle tickets.
A big thanks also to Jean Duff & Anne Fairweather for organising the raffle every year.
This was our tenth and final raffle this year which brings the total for all our raffles up to £2,643.60p (excluding the annual raffle at the coffee morning).
Today was International Volunteers Day so it was fitting we were fortunate to get 3 Shining Star awards awarded this year and these were presented to us by Marion Dye from MS Scotland to Dave Fowler, Iain Bell and Ian McKay.
Dave Fowler.
Dave joined our Angus branch in 1987 and was a committee member for 22 years where he held down the roles of Secretary, Secretary & Vice Chair and then finally the Chairman.
Dave was also member of the Scottish Council for quite a number of years and when this term of office came to an end he was invited to stand again for a further period of time during which time he became Vice Chair of MS Society Scotland and also a Trustee of MS Society UK & Northern Ireland.
Dave has informed that he was also (at the same time as being a Trustee for the MS Society), that he was a Trustee for the Homelands Trust and that he was also involved in the rehashing of the constitution many years back.
Iain Bell.
Iain Bell joined the Angus branch in 1986 and it was approximately about 1992 he joined the committee where he continued his role as a committee member for 4 years before taking the role of Treasurer in 1996 (approximately).
Iain then continued as our Treasurer until last year which has meant he held the Treasurer's post for 12 years but overall a committee member for 16 years in total.
Ian McKay.
Ian McKay joined our Angus branch in1992 and joined the committee to be a committee member in 1995 until last year a total of 13 years.
Ian McKay was well known as our Health and Safety Officer and his roles as quizmaster also, not forgetting to mention the many times he would be serenading us all with his guitar and songs.
